Our Team

Mike Rathgeb is founder & owner of Spencer Homes. While attending SIUE, graduating with a degree in Finance, Mike worked in the residential construction & development industry. Those early experiences remained with him throughout a long corporate career. In the spring of 2005, Spencer Homes was born. Since that time, Mike has been focused on building quality homes as well as making the custom home building process simpler and more enjoyable for clients. Spencer Homes is the only area builder to offer each client their own personal design & selections consultant, a budget coordinator and a cloud based project management tool available 24/7 to our customers. In January of 2014, Mike earned the National Association of Home Builders CAPS certification. As a certified universal/accessible home design specialist he ensures customers can live in their home comfortably, safely, and independently for as long as they want, regardless of age or ability.

Mike is a member of Edwardsville Rotary and sits on the board of directors for the Home Builder Association of Greater Southwest Illinois.

Melinda Rathgeb, Vice-President, following a 15-year career as a senior executive with a national retailer, Melinda joined the family business bringing her strong analytical & business process skill sets. She assists customers with their budget, payout requests and is our BuilderTrend application guru. Melinda is also a key member of our leadership team providing input on company investment decisions, team members and trade partners.

Design Team

Michelle Langley, Lead Design & Selections Consultant, oversees the product & design direction for Spencer Homes. In addition to setting the tone for those broad decisions, she works closely with customers making the custom home building process so much easier. With nearly twenty years of experience combined with an Interior Design & Pre-Architecture degree from Southeast Missouri State University, Michelle knows her stuff. She helps our customers with product selections, design details & helps to make sure the customer vision is expressed throughout the home.

Field Operations Team

Josh Brown, Project Manager, has been building homes in the Edwardsville, Glen Carbon and surrounding areas for more than two decades. His talent, passion for the craft of home building and attention to detail are an integral part of how we provide an outstanding customer building experience. Having years of experience in framing, siding, trim carpentry, roofing and more, Josh knows quality workmanship. He is at the job sites daily ensuring the work is being completed the highest standards, safely and timely all while meeting our customer expectations.

Dustin Radick, Project Leader, is our lead finish carpenter overseeing the cabinet & millwork installation at all homes. He has fabricated some our customers’ favorite built-ins, ceiling features and millwork designs. Also, Dustin executes the closing checklist as well as working directly with customers post-sale. In addition to new home construction, Dustin has experience in historic home renovations.

Brandon Mazur, Finish Carpenter, outstanding skills and a strong leader in our Field Operations group. He has over 2 decades of carpentry experience including running his own framing company.

Dave Love, Finish Carpenter, with nearly 20 years of diverse carpentry background.

Jim Kelly, makes sure our customer job sites are clean, safe & look great from start to finish.

Office Team

Chris Schwertman, our Sales Manager, brings over 15 years of consulting clients through construction projects. He listens to clients gaining a clear understanding of their needs and wants. Chris is also a US Army veteran.

Kory Tretter-Saffel is our bookkeeper and has more than 25 years of experience. She has an Associate of Science degree, specializing in business from Southwestern Illinois College and has applied her skills and knowledge to several different companies throughout her career including a global metallurgical corporation, a national restaurant franchise developer, and a door and millwork company.
